D'Banj should not be a
new name for those into contemporary African music - particularly because his
summer hit song 'Oliver Twist'
was played worldwide and is, well, amazing!
Since D'Banj is pretty well known, I'm not going to go into much
detail besides the fact he is a Nigerian artist who has won various MTV Africa
music awards. His stage name, D'Banj, is a combination of his real name Dapo Oyebanjo.
He enrolled in
military school at the age of eleven where he played in the drum corps, but
after three years he dropped out. He was introduced to music (specifically the
harmonica) by his older brother who died in a plane crash at age 17.
Now D'Banj is known
continent (and world) wide. His songs were quite popular in the clubs and on
the streets while I was in Sierra Leone this summer.
