During my past six weeks in Sierra Leone, two songs dominated my
life, one of them being "Damyarea" by Junior Freeman and African
Soldier. I didn't actually know the name of the song until I returned to the
U.S. and had internet access to look it up, but I did noticed it played everywhere, all the time.
"Damyarea" in Krio means "That's my area" and
was frequently used during the Liberian elections in the past year for campaign
anthems. The song explains how everyone has their own 'area', which can be
anything from selling things along the streets to making music.
My last night in Sierra Leone was spent dancing to this song,
which has awesome West African beats, so I hope you like it as much as I do.
Listen to it below, and if you like it as much as I do, click the arrow to
download it!
